MAC Eyeshadow Palette - Nordstrom Naturals - Swatches

Vapour, Honey Lust, All That Glitters, Saddle & Mulch
Ricepaper, Amber Lights, Woodwinked, Wedge & Brun
Omega, Satin Taupe, Embark, Beauty Marked & Carbon
Last week MAC released three new 15 pan eyeshadow palettes along with two nine pan eyeshadow palettes.  These palettes are sold at MAC and Nordstrom with one palette (Nordstrom Naturals palette) being exclusive to Nordstrom.  The two that are sold at both stores are a warm and a cool 15 pan eyeshadow palette.

I was super excited to pick up the Nordstrom Naturals palette because it had mostly shades that were all on my must buy MAC eyeshadow list at a great deal!  You get 15 shadows for $85, which works out to be $5.66 a shadow.  Normally you would pay $10 or $16 depending if you buy it in refill pan form or not.  Either way, this is a great deal especially since the Nordstrom Naturals is 15 of MAC's best-selling shades.

Happy shopping!

Live Life Brilliantly with Madison Reed Hair Color

When Madison Reed asked me to participate in their home "Better For You" hair color campaign, I was very interested.  I was excited to find out that Madison Reed is not only is a San Francisco company but that they are bringing the salon-quality hair color and delivering it right to your door.  They have also found a way to remove harsh ingredients (Ammonia, Parabens & Ethanol Alcohol) and enrich the hair color with Keratin, Argan Oil & Ginseng Root.

A couple of years ago I had been going to the salon to get my hair highlighted and I had taken a break from that to give my hair a rest since it seemed to be drying it out pretty badly.  I started buying more natural hair coloring options from Good Earth grocery store to help aid in covering ahem.....my gray. Yeah, you know what I'm talking about ladies.  Those pesky gray hairs that are slowly creeping into your hair color.

Madison Reed's "Better For You" hair color home delivery service is extremely easy to use.  You go online or through their mobile app and then you either use their Color Advisor or their Color Translator (using your current home hair color brand and translating to their colors) to choose one of their 32 colors.  Their goal is to deliver a little bit of pampering and a little bit of glamour all in the convenience of your home and on your own time.  Madison Reed wants to support you every step of the way (always available for online or over the phone consultations) to make sure your hair looks incredible and you feel fantastic (the most important part - right!).

Once you choose you find your right shade Madison Reed sends you this most impressive box with all the things you need to do salon-quality hair at home.  Everything is nicely labeled and the easy instructions (with pictures) are laid out on the left and right side of the box (no pesky gigantic instruction sheets that take up half of your bathroom).

What I loved best about the hair color was the lack of strong smells that normally come with other hair color kits.  This didn't smell while I was doing it on myself and it didn't leave my hair with a strong chemical smell after I had finished doing it.  It left my hair, which had slowly worked into two different colors with the highlights bright at the end, and it made it one color with subtle highlights that are perfect for the winter.  I chose Napoli Brown (5NGV), which is a natural deep warm brown with hints of gold.  It left my hair shiny, with a new brilliant color and most importantly, soft.

Another favorite aspect of this company is that you can either order a box at a time for $29.95 or you can set it up for auto delivery for $24.95, with it shipping anywhere from three weeks to ten weeks, depending on your hair schedule.  I don't know how many times I've realized it's time to color my hair and I've forgotten to buy it.  Then it takes me forever to remember to make a special trip to pick it up.  With Madison Reed you don't have to think about it.  It just shows up at your door and you are set.  What's even nicer is that they offer a money back guarantee if you are not satisfied for any reason!

Madison Reed is offering all Savvy in San Francisco readers 50% off your first purchase with this link!  The code is Better4U and is valid until 12/31/14.

What do you think of my color change?  What do you do to hide those pesky grays?

Cheers,

French Beauty Haul - The Staples

If you follow me on Instagram, you will know that I went to France with my Goop French Pharmacy List in hand.  I actually have to blame Gwyneth Paltrow for my newfound skincare obsession.  I have always been obsessed with makeup and all things beauty, but my skincare routine has always been such a hassle to me.  It wasn't until I found all of these amazing French skincare products that my nighttime routine started turning into a spa routine and one that I look forward to every night.

In this post, I want to share with you the cult favorites and staples that I picked up while I was over in France at a couple different pharmacies but mostly at City Pharma.  I have a lot more posts to share with you because I went a little hog wild over there and not only picked up the cult favorites, but also enough skincare to keep my face clean and happy for the next year.  I thought I would start with the basics and what I thought of them.

Bioderma Crealine Micellaire - This cleansing water is all over beauty bloggers and makeup artists sites.  Bioderma is fabulous for taking off all of your makeup (eye makeup and lipstick too).   I really like how well it takes the makeup off and that it doesn't have any smell to it.  I'm currently comparing some alternatives to Bioderma since it is so much more expensive to buy it over in the United States than it is in France.

Homeoplasmine - This balm seems to be very similar to Aquaphor in the US, but with other homeopathic ingredients that help with dry skin (lips, cuticles, scrapes, etc).  It also has a matte appearance which can be nice when wearing on your lips underneath lipstick.

Avene Eau Thermale - I've never used a facial spray before, but I thought I would give it a try.  It's supposed to sooth your skin if it's irritated or dehydrated.  It can be used to set your make-up or refresh and hydrate your skin throughout the day.  There are a lot of facial sprays out there to choose from.  Two others that I have bought since coming back from France are the Caudalie Beauty Elixir & Mario Badescu Rosewater Facial Spray.  I feel that the Caudalie & Mario Badescu offer more benefits - essential oils, aloe, etc versus the Avene.  But I will still use all three since the Avene makes a more travel/purse size friendly one and then I have the other two at home and in the car.

Biafine - This cream is AMAZING on sunburns!  You can actually put it on your dry spots and your lips, but I am in awe of how quick this cream takes away a sunburn.  I had a couple of sunburns this summer and the amount that the sunburned was reduced with one application of this cream really impressed me.

NUXE Huile de Prodigieuse Multi-Purpose Dry Oil - This oil is great for using on your damaged hair and as an all over body oil.  There is something so delicious about the smell of this oil.  The smell reminds me of being a kid at the beach and it's completely addictive.  I love using it as a layer underneath my moisturizer when I'm feeling especially dry.

NUXE Reve de Miel Lip Balm - I love this lip balm!  Not only does it feel moisturizing and nourishing but it feels like it really stays on your lips.  Reve de Miel also has a matte look to it, which is perfect for underneath your matte lipsticks!  It has a a great honey smell as well.

Embroylisse Lait-Creme Concentrate -  This cult phenomena skincare product is said to be used by makeup artists in many different ways.  You are able to use it as a makeup remover, moisturizer and a makeup primer.  The smell of this cream reminds me of creams that my mom used to use when I was growing up.  There is also something that seems to be so very French about the scent.  I've really enjoyed using this mostly as my nighttime moisturizer.   After I have cleansed my face and put on my serum then I moisturize with the Lait-Creme Concentrate.  I have combination skin and I have not had a problem with this causing me to break out.  On days that my skin feels on the drier side I will use this as my primer/moisturizer layer under my makeup.

Klorane Dry Shampoo - Dry shampoos are popping up everywhere but Klorane has been making one that is a huge favorite.  I'm a huge fan of being able to go a couple days without shampooing and restyling my hair.  It has a pretty good smell and is gentle on your hair.  I was excited to hear that they have come out with ones that are for people with dark hair because this one still left a white residue like my old favorite, PSSST.

Most of these items can be found on Amazon, Ebay and some retailers in the UK (FeelUnique & Look Fantastic) that will ship to the United States.  Of course the cheapest place to buy these products is at City Pharma in Paris, but it can cost a pretty penny to get yourself over there too! Happy shopping!

Getting ready for a girls night out with my new NARS Audacious in Fanny.
Watching the sunset at The Ritz Carlton Laguna Beach with friends from our Cabo weekend getaway.
These three buddies are so scrumptious and I can't stand the cuteness overload!
A new French subscription service that just started called French Box.  Well you knew I had to subscribe!  Will share the contents on the blog soon!
Had fun doing a photoshoot for Gymboree with the kiddos.  They love their new Eric Carle pajamas!
Picked up a sample of the new Dior Star brightening foundation from Sephora & it might be my new Holy Grail foundation!
Friends for 25 years and even though we live far apart, when we get together, it's like it's been a week. Love you Maile!
He finally learned to ride his bike without training wheels this weekend!  Excited for this little guy to be finding his stride!
This Givenchy Le Rouge in Mandarine Bolero helped me realize that I could wear orange/coral shades.  I had never tried an orange or coral color because I had it in my head that I couldn't wear them.  Now I'm kind of obsessed with buying them!
I've been a pretty MIA on the blog, but now the kids are back in school (even Charlotte two days a week), so I'm hoping I'm going to be able to find my groove again on this blog while I take back some time for myself!  I thought I would share some of my Instagrams from over the last couple of weeks with you.

Savvy Beauty Haul

Ever since returning from returning from France I've been obsessed (that's putting it mildly) with skincare and cosmetics.  I blame GOOP, Lisa Eldridge and the French Pharmacies (more on that haul later).  I still need to share our trip to France (sans kids) with all of you, but I thought I would quickly share some of my new beauty purchases that I've discovered in the last couple of weeks.

My new BareMinerals BareSkin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation is amazing!  It gives you the coverage of foundation but it feels like a tinted sunscreen when you put it on.  The BareSkin is so lightweight and doesn't feel heavy on the skin.  The BareSkin Perfecting Face Brush seems to be the key to applying and blending your foundation into your skin so that it gives your skin a natural look.

I had to try this Color WOW Root Cover Up when I heard such good things about it.  I'm not going to lie, those grey hairs have been sneaking in and I don't want to have to keep going to my colorist constantly to hide them!  You can test them out at Space NK to find your perfect shade.

I've always wanted to try one of Urban Decay's Naked Palettes.  I was drawn to the gorgeous shades of rose and pink in their new Naked3 Palette!  I love that it has both matte and shimmer eyeshadows in a variety of colors from light to dark.  Of course I had to buy the double ended Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil since it matches two of the shades in the palette.

The Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant mask I bought from a recommendation from Lisa Eldridge as a gentle way to exfoliate your skin for brighter skin and to help encourage cell turnover.  I'm always looking for a way to get rid of this pregnancy melasma (brown splotchiness) that still is on my skin even though it's been three years since I was last pregnant.  Oh the joys of being a woman!

I'm always in search of a fabulous lipstick, balm or gloss for my lips.  Being a mom of three and constantly on the go, I need something that is going to multi-task for me: give me a hint of color and moisturize my lips.  I've tried two new ones that I'm liking.  The Fresh Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment gives a nice amount of color on your lips, provides SPF 15 and is very moisturizing. The Clarins Lip Balm Crayon is a lighter color coverage on your lips but is still moisturizing but does not have any SPF in it.

What are some of your favorite new beauty purchases?  Any new products that you can't live without?  I would love to read about them in the comments!

Savvy Events: Jouer & Nordstrom Beauty Trend Show

One of my favorite cosmetics brands, Jouer Cosmetics, is coming to the Bay Area this Saturday.  They will be at Nordstrom in the Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek from 10:30am to 5:00pm on Saturday, April 12th.

They will be taking appointments for complimentary makeovers by Jouer stylists, having some fun with a photo booth and giving out free gifts.

The best part is that Christina Zilber, the Founder and Creative Director of Jouer, will be there.  She is quite an inspirational woman and it's great to be able to talk to the woman behind the brand.

On top of all the fun, Jouer is offering my readers an exclusive gift for anyone that mentions Savvy in San Francisco when you book your appointment!  Let me know if you are going to attend.

Hope you are all having a beautiful day!

Nivea Tropical Escape - Giveaway

When NIVEA approached me about trying the NIVEA Escape Challenge, I thought what a great way to get ready for our upcoming trip to Maui!  Trying out NIVEA's new hydrating shower gel would not only prep my skin for a tropical vacation by hydrating it but it would allow my mind to escape to a tropical retreat in my own shower with the scent of the frangipani flowers.

Nivea sent me a kit containing the Touch of Frangipani Hydrating Shower Gel (featured in the July issue of Allure Magazine as an Editor's Favorites), a pair of Havaianas Flip Flops and a $50 1-800-FLOWERS Gift Card.  The goal was to see how our skin felt after using the hydrating shower gel after 10 days while creating our own little tropical escape.  They challenged us to slow down and enjoy our shower experience.  So many mornings I am rushing through the shower process so quickly that I'm not taking a second just to take a moment for myself.

I have to say that after two weeks, my skin has felt softer and I have been more aware of slowing down just a little bit to take a little time for myself (which we all know that we all could use a little bit more me time for ourselves).

Leave me a comment and let me know what your favorite way is to create your own "escape".

For more inspiration on "escaping" to a tropical retreat you can check out my Pinterest board here

NIVEA is offering a Savvy in San Francisco reader the same "Escape" Challenge kit including:
  • one bottle of NIVEA Touch of Frangipani
  • a pair of Havaianas® Flip Flops
  • a $50 1-800-FLOWERS® Gift Card
a Rafflecopter giveaway

*This was a sponsored post.  I was provided the kit from NIVEA for review and challenge purposes, but all opinions are my own.

Ooh La La - Jouer Summer Escapes Giveaway

Jouer Cosmetics recently released their Summer Escapes 2013 collection and I'm in love with the beautiful colors.  Their new lip sheer colors that are also SPF15 are named after places we all long to visit during the summer months - Antigua, Ibiza, Maui and Santorini.  One of my favorite products from Jouer is their moisturizing lip gloss in Hibiscus Shade.  It's long-wearing (which you rarely find in a lip gloss) and full of oils and vitamins to moisturize your lips.

To celebrate their summer collection, Jouer is allowing Savvy in San Francisco to do a giveaway of one of their luxe, leather Ooh La La makeup bags along with a lip sheer and a moisturizing lip gloss!  Go to Jouer's website and check out all of their latest summer collection colors and leave me a comment on your favorite shade!  Be sure to enter in the Raffelcopter section below.  Good luck!

UPDATE: Congratulations to Dominique on winning the Jouer cosmetics bag, lip sheer and lip gloss!
